We are pleased to announce the following events for August 2012.

August 11th TENTATIVE SC Blacksmiths Return to Historic Camden
              9:30 am-1:30 pm; blacksmith forge on lower grounds

Members of The Philip Simmons Artists-Blacksmith Guild of South Carolina will fire up Historic Camden's forge on August 13th from 9:30-1:30 pm to demonstrate the art of traditional blacksmithing.  The public, especially aspiring smiths of all ages, is encouraged to attend. Started in 1995, the Guild is named after Philip Simmons, the famous Charleston Blacksmith, and has over 100 members from South Carolina and
other states (www.simmons.abana-chapter.com). 

AUGUST 18, 2012 TENTATIVE

Battle of Camden Remembrance Day, 10 am - 4:30 pm

  British Redcoats portray life in garrison at Fort Camden, with performances of skits pertaining to the Battle of Camden at the Kershaw-Cornwallis House. There will be free guided tours of the house from 10:30- 12:00 am and 1:30 - 4:00 pm. An enlightening ½ SC ETV documentary on the battle,"Sunrise at Gum Swamp," will be shown on the hour, and the SC Philip Simmons Blacksmith Association will be at the forge from 9:30am to 1:30 pm. Free admission (donations always welcome, though!). No pets, please.
